Offshore Pipelines

DONG Naturgas A/S and POGC announced an intention to construct an offshore gas pipeline
in the Baltic Sea to provide gas from Denmark to the domestic Polish market. The
230 km 30" pipeline was routed across through territorial waters of Denmark,
Sweden, Germany and Poland in a water depth range of 0-50m. Environmental issues
proved a major concern in the design as well as the need to conform to legislation
in all four countries. The pipeline was designed in accordance with DNV OS F101
and included a future mid-line connection to allow for potential gas export to other
customers. JPKenny scope of work included detailed design and construction management
for this project.

Malampaya
|
Offshore Pipelines
|
The Malampaya pipelines comprise two, 16-inch flowlines, 30km long, between a subsea
manifold in 850m water depth and a shallow water platform, and a 500km 24-inch gas
export pipeline between the platform and a landfall at Batanages in the Philippines.
The export pipeline passes through water depths of up to 650m. As well as the challenges
of deepwater pipeline construction, the pipeline routes pass through areas that
are subject to seismic activity, mud slides and slope instability. J P Kenny performed
FEED engineering, including the preparation and issue of ITT's for the linepipe
and construction contracts, with design concentrating on the confirmation of route
feasibility and the development of limit state design methodologies and acceptance
criteria. J P Kenny's continued involvement has lead to the development of a full
mechanical design of the pipelines and extended to follow-on and construction support
engineering.

back to an FPSO but an alternative with a surface wellhead platform, plus subsea,
was also evaluated. In addition to costing and cost reduction studies and the development
of specifications for the ITT documentation, responsible for technical aspects including:
flowline configuration and installation option studies (individual, pipe-in-pipe

spool design and layoutand connection methods. After the completion of the FEED,

Responsible for the development of the subsea and pipeline architecture options,
to suit alternative reservoir outcomes and to take account of the significant geo-hazards.
The pipeline network corridors had to have sufficient flexibility to allow for transfer
of fluids from facilities in the eastern, northern, western and southern flanks
of the field while avoiding the geo-hazards to minimise potential risk to the integrity
of the pipelines. A wide range of pipeline diameters were examined for suitability
of transporting multi-phase flow as intrafield pipelines. Hydraulic and layability
analyses were carried out for the oil and gas export pipeline systems. The limitations
of pipelay and construction vessels available in the Caspian were identified and
alternative solutions proposed. Cost estimates were produced and benchmarked.
