Dong North Sea (UK Sector) Denmark - UK Inter- connector Offshore Pipelines DONG Naturgas A/S and POGC announced an intention to construct an offshore gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea to provide gas from Denmark to the domestic Polish market. The 230 km 30" pipeline was routed across through territorial waters of Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Poland in a water depth range of 0-50m. Environmental issues proved a major concern in the design as well as the need to conform to legislation in all four countries. The pipeline was designed in accordance with DNV OS F101 and included a future mid-line connection to allow for potential gas export to other customers. JPKenny scope of work included detailed design and construction management for this project.
Shell Philippines Malampaya Offshore Pipelines The Malampaya pipelines comprise two, 16-inch flowlines, 30km long, between a subsea manifold in 850m water depth and a shallow water platform, and a 500km 24-inch gas export pipeline between the platform and a landfall at Batanages in the Philippines. The export pipeline passes through water depths of up to 650m. As well as the challenges of deepwater pipeline construction, the pipeline routes pass through areas that are subject to seismic activity, mud slides and slope instability. J P Kenny performed FEED engineering, including the preparation and issue of ITT's for the linepipe and construction contracts, with design concentrating on the confirmation of route feasibility and the development of limit state design methodologies and acceptance criteria. J P Kenny's continued involvement has lead to the development of a full mechanical design of the pipelines and extended to follow-on and construction support engineering.

JPK's scope related to route selection for the Scotland to Ireland Second Interconnector, concept design, PEIA and cost estimating. Elf Angola Dalia Offshore Pipelines Subcontracted to ABB Lummus Global for the subsea elements of the Dalia FEED project, a development consisting of 39 wells. The base case was a subsea development tied back to an FPSO but an alternative with a surface wellhead platform, plus subsea, was also evaluated. In addition to costing and cost reduction studies and the development of specifications for the ITT documentation, responsible for technical aspects including: flowline configuration and installation option studies (individual, pipe-in-pipe and bundles), consideration of plastic liners for the water injection flowlines, spool design and layoutand connection methods. After the completion of the FEED, Elf retained JP Kenny directly, for some further optimisation work using FOCU$. Once the base case and cost model was developed, the major benefit of FOCU$ was demonstrated by developing and optimising alternative options ‘live’, in a multi-disciplinary workshop.

Woodside Western Australia Lambert Early Tie-back Subsea As part of the Coflexip Stena/J P Kenny Joint Venture, responsible for all engineering, procurement, management and installation of the Lambert/Hermes Subsea facilities. The initial scheme, or Early Tie-Back, was a fast-track single well (converted from a spare Wanaea/Cossack tree), flexible flowline, electrohydraulic controls, umbilical and a small subsea interface.
BP Caspian Shah Deniz Offshore Pipelines Responsible for the development of the subsea and pipeline architecture options, to suit alternative reservoir outcomes and to take account of the significant geo-hazards. The pipeline network corridors had to have sufficient flexibility to allow for transfer of fluids from facilities in the eastern, northern, western and southern flanks of the field while avoiding the geo-hazards to minimise potential risk to the integrity of the pipelines. A wide range of pipeline diameters were examined for suitability of transporting multi-phase flow as intrafield pipelines. Hydraulic and layability analyses were carried out for the oil and gas export pipeline systems. The limitations of pipelay and construction vessels available in the Caspian were identified and alternative solutions proposed. Cost estimates were produced and benchmarked.
Phillips Timor Sea Bayu Undan Offshore Pipelines J P Kenny was commissioned to engineer and prepare a cost estimate for either a single 30-inch or 2, 26-inch subsea pipelines to transport gas from an offshore installation to one of several possible landfall sites on the south side of Timor or Roti Island. A detailed cost estimating model was developed to evaluate the technical and economic sensitivities of installation by S-lay or J-lay, spool installations, requirements for SSIV's etc.
State Energy Commission of Western Australia Western Australia Perth Gas Line Enhancement Study Offshore Pipelines The Dampier - Perth pipeline was assessed to determine its flow capacity. A study was carried out to determine the various ways which would increase the capacity of the pipeline system. Various upgrades including increasing the compression capacity at existing compressor stations, installing additional compressor stations, CO removal, enriching the gas supply, line looping, alternative gas supplies were all assessed in terms of technical feasibility, net increase in capacity, cost to implement upgrade and the project lead time to complete.

Shell North Sea Curlew Subsea The work undertaken was the tie-in of a new production well into the field existing infrastructure. Scope of work consisted of design and supply of tee assembly c/w two hydraulic actuated valves and manual chemical injection valve (free issue valves), tee unit for crossover jumper upgrade, adjustable supports to enable tie-in to existing tree spools, hydraulic function interface plate, revise existing field drawings to 'As-Built'.

The scope involved creating a model to simulate creeping movement and utilizing it to quantify the rate of movement and identify the mechanism causing the movement, evaluation of various remedial measures to prevent further flowline movement with rock dumping being selected as the best option, design of a rock berm capable of preventing flowline axial movement, evaluation of rock dumped flowlines for upheaval buckling.
